PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP)—Moving day at the U.S. Open on Saturday went like this: Get your birdies and eagles early and keep the bogeys and bigger numbers to a minimum as Pebble Beach got more difficult.
Phil Mickelson didn’t follow the plan. And very quickly, Lefty was falling out of contention.
Tiger Woods didn’t follow the plan either. But a sterling 31 on the back nine and a round of 66 had Woods at 1 under going to the final round.
“I was just trying to get back to even par or 1 over for the championship,” Woods said. “I thought that would be a nice place to end up at.
