    Helper Robots for the Elderly

Now if only they were able to converse in a happy, positive manner, the elderly would have it made.

    Thoughts?

European researchers are gathering in Sweden this week to design robots that will help the elderly.

It's part of a four-year project called Robot-Era, which is looking at ways to integrate robots into the lives of elderly people, as well as their families and caregivers.

The researchers will look to build a domestic robot that will provide day-to-day assistance in the home, as well as an outdoor robot to help the elderly in the street or in stores by doing things like carrying goods and giving directions.

A condominium robot would help carry groceries from the street into the home, and also bring down the garbage.

The goal for researchers is also to make robots that are affordable.
About 25 researchers will meet at the University of Orebro in Sweden.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Nightmare scenario. This is just another way to say: "We are failing as a society, in which we refuse to take care of the elderly."

I started to watch i-Robot, but fell asleep. Perhaps I should have paid more attention...
