School Bus Monitor Bullied By Kids
What is happening with kids that they could be so terribly cruel and mean? With all the anti-bullying covered in media and so many shows, it sure doesn't seem to be working.
A school bus aide in upstate New York who was mercilessly driven to tears by student bullies found an outpouring of support Wednesday after video of the cruel taunting was uploaded online.
The upsetting incident led Greece Central School District officials and local police to investigate the verbal harassment against Karen Klein, a grandmother of eight, who was riding on a school bus Monday with a group of children from Greece Athena Middle School.
Klein, 68, said she never planned to report the kids’ nasty behavior, but found herself in the spotlight after cell phone video of the abuse was uploaded to YouTube, according to reports.

Re: School Bus Monitor Bullied By Kids
i was horrified when i heard this on the news this morning. then, they had the gull to say how sorry they were. they were just sorry they got caught. these kids had to learn this behaviour somewhere to behave this way towards a senior. it's disgusting. sad thing is that they probably won't get too bad of a punishment since they are underage. so will they learn anything from their lack of consequences? probably not.

There is a fund-raiser being held for her. Over $500 K has already been donated to her for a vacation. Looks like permanent retirement.

This just goes to show the pack mentality of the human race....one person attacks and the rest all follow.
Sometimes i really would love to get locked in a room with the "little darlings", for just 5 minutes.

Update: Punishment for kids involved.
Do you think that this story now will get kids to think twice before bullying someone?
Four seventh-grade boys from upstate New York who were caught on video mercilessly taunting a 68-year-old bus monitor have received their punishment.
The school system in the Rochester suburb of Greece says it will suspend the middle school students from school and from using regular bus transportation for a year for bullying Karen Klein.
The students will be transferred to a special alternative education program because the district is legally required to give the students an education. Each student will also be required to complete 50 hours of community service with senior citizens.
They will be able to reapply to middle school after they complete the discipline.A fund drive that began in Canada with a goal of $5,000 to help Klein take a nice vacation raised more than $667,304 as of Friday.
Klein has received attention through social and news media with interviews such as an appearance earlier this week on NBC's "Today Show." She was honoured Thursday in Boston, where she was greeted by a youth cheerleading squad and escorted on a red carpet to receive an honorary Boston school bus monitor certificate.Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Nah. It is only some action undertaken by the school, in an attempt to protect its image. Too little to late.

Re: School Bus Monitor Bullied By Kids
i don't htink it will teach too many other kids a lesson, just those kids that are living the consequences to their actions right now. punishments need to be enforced to anyone who bullies. this is a good start.
this woman came out with a nice sum of money and the kids all got punished. hopefully this message will touch some kids out there. if it touches a few then that's a few less bullies.Life is what you make of it. Make it happen.
