Suicide Due to Bullying Foreshadowed by Video

Another tragedy of bullying has taken another life! When are people going to get the message that a person cannot be treated like dirt, instead showing kindness, compassion, understanding and love?

Tributes are pouring in for a Port Coquitlam, B.C., teenager who committed suicide after posting a video describing how she was tormented by bullies and struggling with depression.

Fifteen-year-old Amanda Todd's cry for help was posted in a YouTube video in September. YouTube took it down Thursday following her death.

The teen doesn't speak through the entire nine minutes, but flashes dozens of cards telling how she sank into depression after being relentlessly taunted and physically attacked at school.

She writes that it started after an unknown man convinced her to expose herself online in front of a webcam. He blackmailed her and spread the photos around, destroying her reputation.

Keeping posted on what happens with this investigation.

B.C. Mounties say criminal charges could result from an investigation into the death of a 15-year-old girl who took her own life after experiencing relentless bullying.

Sgt. Peter Thiessen is calling the death of Amanda Todd a devastating tragedy and says police are conducting a full investigation.

The 15-year-old girl committed suicide in her family home on Wednesday, about a month after posting a video on YouTube saying that she had sunk into depression while enduring years of online bullying, blackmail and physical assaults at school.

Thiessen said investigators are looking at social media, past conversations, postings, and past actions on social media by everyone and anyone who may have come into contact with Todd.
Thiessen said a number of areas in the Criminal Code could be applied, but he declined to name those sections.

Schools are too obsessed with their reputations, rather than being their for the students. Pathetic! What follows may be a bit draconian, but hey ...

For those who posted hateful messages on social media, I'd suggest to do a mass process to prosecute everyone who has posted libelous and defamatory comments, and to force everyone who has been found guilty to pay a hefty fine and do some serious community work.

Prosecute all the relevant authorities (school, board of directors, the whole lot) for second or third degree murder, not going to the relevant authorities when they knew, or ought to have known, crimes had been committed (in most countries that is a crime, and a prosecutable offense in itself). If that does not help these <expletives> to take bullying seriously, I don't know what will. If that means the entire government of B.C. has to spend a few years behind bars for their willful neglect of this particular problem, leading to yet another unnecessary death, so be it.

Harsh? Perhaps. But sending countless kids to death because supposedly responsible people refuse to take action is callous.

This entire situation is one giant clusterphuk and it's already spiraling out of control.

I feel absolutely terrible for this girl and that she felt the only way out was to take her own life but as usual then end result won't be a positive outcome, it will be a 3 ring circus of nothing being accomplished.

...and what is the topic here anyway, bullying; something that's been prominent in and out of school since when, the first school was built? If you haven't been bullied yourself, you know someone who has or you yourself were the bully, there is no fourth option.

Has anything changed, will anything ever truly change?

Now factor into it cyber bullying so it's the same topic but now it invades our private time and humiliates us on a much larger scale. Who's responsible for that, the school, the cops, the student, the software, the webhost, the Internet, the Country?

A hacker group has taken it upon themselves to actually track the purported instigator in this bullying case and posted everything about him online. Many argue this is what is needed however think about it, their just bullying a bully while attaining details no body should have access to.

If anything, these idiots are making things worse as they may be corrupting evidence that could be potentially used at a later date against the yet to be accused.

The only good thing we have stemming from this is that some kids are talking more openly about bullying but I'd wager most of them aren't the victims because the victims usually seem to suffer in silence.

Then there's the bullies themselves, what makes a bully a bully and all the other questions that are associated with bullying in general.

Lastly we have a Premiere who is on her way out because she's a complete idiot. She's already commented on this topic but if she sees any chance for Political salvation, she'll probably tee this up with the current Enbridge soap opera.

Re: Suicide Due to Bullying Foreshadowed by Video

    i read this earlier actually....

"Paula - A teacher in New York was teaching her class about bullying and gave them the following exercise to perform. She had the children take a piece of paper and told them to crumple it up, stamp on it and really mess it up but do not rip it. Then she had them unfold the paper, smooth it out and look at how scarred and dirty is was. She then told them to tell it they’re sorry. Now even though they said they were sorry and tried to fix the paper, she pointed out all the scars they left behind. And that those scars will never go away no matter how hard they tried to fix it. That is what happens when a child bullies another child, they may say they’re sorry but the scars are there forever. The looks on the faces of the children in the classroom told her the message hit home."
