    Boston Marathon Bombings

    Another shocking act of violence.

U.S. federal authorities are hunting for suspects after two bombs exploded near the Boston Marathon finish line on Monday, leaving three dead, more than 140 wounded and turning the city's signature sporting event into a bloody scene of horror.

"It is a criminal investigation that is a potential terrorist investigation," FBI special agent Rick DesLauriers said in a news conference.
Earlier, U.S. President Barack Obama cautioned that "we still do not know who did this, or why. People shouldn't jump to conclusions before we have all the facts."
"But make no mistake, we will get to the bottom of this we'll find out who did this, we'll find out why they did this. Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice."

I simply cant believe that someone could intentionally kill or maim innocent people on purpose. What the hell makes people turn so bad, so rabld that they do this to people they dont even know?

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people affected by the bombing and to all residents of Boston.

i will never understand why or how a person can think that this is an OK thing to do to innocent people. did they think this would be funny? were there people who were participating in this marathon that these monsters thought should suffer? who do they idol? what would make a person even think of doing such a thing to other human beings? a child died needlessly...sooo sad...

there is way too much of this kind of thing happening in the world today. seems every other month, there is some kind of explosion, gun massacre happening. what's going on? so many people out there that don't have the capability of empathy...

question is...how does this get resolved? what steps should be taken to try and stop these needless acts of violence? questions that can never be answered....

the whole thing is so sad... (

Well, for starters, it would help that we (and I mean all of us), stop dehumanising people in other places. Whether that is in Iraq, Pakistan, France, or the US. We do that a lot.

Sadly, the military has this nasty tendency to classify all their SNAFUs. And there have been plenty of those. But it is not only the military. If you bomb reasonable people, they have this tendency to become unreasonable, especially if you are unwilling to admit to messing up.

Media, politicians, and corporates do the same thing. Some in more extreme fashion than others. As much as I hate to say it, killing massive amounts of civilian population is a recurrent theme in the 20th and 21st century, both by democratic and undemocratic regimes. This naturally feeds extremism - as the moderate approach tends to prove quite fruitless, as it goes against "vested" interests.

Whether that is a dictatorial regime, some extra-judicial "counter-insurgency" (which more often than not is an actual insurgency supported by foreign powers) or Monsanto effectively writing their own laws (what do you think lobbyists do?), which become seeds of ever more violent discontent. And unlike the Monsanto seeds, these seeds will multiply, and just like Monsanto seeds, that will happen in damaging and unexpected ways.

As long as a moderate reasonable approach fails, and persistently fails, you will have people who'd argue for more extremist methods of affecting change. Suicide bombings, bombing places deemed to be "evil", war etc. Shooting abortion doctors is not exactly unheard of in the US either. But how is that different to other supposedly religiously mandated terrorism?

As ever, the biggest problem is to define what "reasonable" is.

Wondering if we will ever be told by the survivor what why this horrific event happened.

    Re: Boston Marathon Bombings

    Update:

The lone surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing is still lying wounded in hospital and for now is unable to talk to investigators.
Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick says Dzhokhar Tsarnaev appears to be incapable of answering police questions because of a gunshot wound to the back of his neck.
During an interview Sunday with ABC's This Week, Boston Mayor Tom Menino said authorities may never be able to question the suspect.
Menino said Tsarnaev, 19, is in "very serious" condition, "and we don't know if we'll ever be able to question the individual."
