How Do You Decide Which Candidate...

you will vote for? Do you listen to the Debates? Do you research online? Do you put a lot of effort in finding out what the Candidate is about?

If I vote, I usually just vote my ticket. None of them are worth a damn. They all have their own agenda and it usually doesn't benefit people like me.

I vote on party policy alone since the UK system is to vote in a party rather than a candidate. I'll listen to debates and what they have to say but unfortunately the two biggest parties are both so centre right (Labour should be traditionally left wing!!) there is no choice.

I don't follow Politics anymore and haven't voted for prolly 10 years or more. I simply tired of picking the lesser evil when it came to candidates so unless I truly like one particular politician (which is extremely rare), I don't vote.

I also don't blame my plight on the current Political Party as I waive my right to do so by not voting and I realize this. AFAIC, none of them really do much in the way of good without balancing it with healthy portions of bad. I can find things I agree and disagree with in all candidates so it comes down to who's packaged the half truths the neatest.

I think the whole world is interested in that. I just don't want Mrs. Opportunist to win,

Obama will probably be the next president. Hillary is over. True conservatives don't like McCain so he's out. America isn't mature enough for Ron Paul/libertarian style of government although it was much closer to libertarian form when the country was started. True, it was not libertarian on racial and gender issues back then but it was libertarian on fiscal and national security issues. Marching on towards socialism, nanny-state, we-know-better-than-you style government.

Ya, but they will likely be far less enthusiastic to campaign for him than they were for George W. . And that of course affects the ability of the Republicans to mobilize people to vote.

I do wonder how effectively the Democrats will be able to mobilize people, once Hillary (or Obama?) drops out. I think they will have less problems in that regard, and even less so if Hillary drops out.

Hilary will mobilize republicans to vote, because of the hate for her. Democrats may have problems if the fight between obama and Hilary gets really nasty at the convention, she has already threatened to try and poach obamas elected delegates.

Re: How Do You Decide Which Candidate...

Yes, but if Obama wins the anti-Hillary campaign of the Republicans is a bit pointless. And with her voting record, such a campaign would be all too easy to organise.

Anyone with a sane mind, who wants their party to win the election has to consider such things. It is mind-bogling to me that she has a lot of support from party members.

And as Caitlynn points out, you don't have much choice. Gun legislation and Iraq are both important policy issues, but a lot of people will not find a candidate with whom they can identify on these issues.

The question then becomes: what is more important? The position on the right to carry arms or Iraq?

Time will tell. It is interesting that the insurgents have a major impact on US politics, as one well-timed terrorist attack or timely published torture scandal can ruin McCain's bid.

The right to kill vs the right not to be killed, that should be interesting.
After all we don't want our kids to be killed, but we do want to reserve the right to kill someone elses kid. At times I'm very glad not to live in the US. I'd go crazy there probably

Re: How Do You Decide Which Candidate...

I always vote - for the party that most closely matches my political views and has a chance of winning. That doesn't leave a lot of scope. I follow the election campaigns quite closely as I'm interested in the outcome but rarely research the record of my local MP.
